Has anyone tried succesfully to make this router able to block a particular phone number/s (Bill collectors & marketeers)?
I know of the many 3rd party software with the huge setback of having to have a PC running 24/7 to keep the blocking program runing, which is by far a waste.

thank you RICK! I tried and tried to connect to my unit. eventually I moved it next to my computer and I connected once! then I couldn't connect again. it didn't occur to me that resetting it was the key. I updated the firmware and the problem seems to have gone away for now.

I installed the HiPort router about a month ago and I’m really happy with the service. Just canceled one of my landlines. Wired it into my network in this order: modem->Wireless N/Gbit router->HiPort and turned off the HiPort wireless radio (it’s only G). It took some time to get the IP set-up right so devices connected to the HiPort’s router could “talk” to other devices on the network, but eventually I got it.

And Jerry was right (see 9/8/08 post) - you can run the HiPort's phone output into a wall jack and have the line available to all jacks in the house (be sure to disconnect the landlines coming into the house!). The reason you might want to do this is if you want to use a wired phone in a certain area (e.g. garage or basement), or in my case, you have Satellite TV boxes that need to "call home" or a fax machine. Unfortunately, @Home doesn't yet support modem calls, but I understand that they're going to in the future (fingers crossed).

Yup the latest Firmware Version : v1.00.09 did the trick for me as well. Sometimes these thing can be such a "PITA". Either you love them or your yelling at them. ;)

Marty,

I never bothered trying it because I needed new phones anyway, so I bought the T-Mobile/VTECH set plus an extra handset from VTECH. That said, if you look at the comments on the other blog posts I do recall a number of folks saying that they did successfully get phone service to their regular lines that way.

As for the router stuff...no idea. I know people who have added additional routers and the like do seem to be the ones posting problems in my blog's comment sections, but I would think if you are comfortable with networking and configuring routers then it should work. T-Mobile says it will work.

Hi Mark,

In a September post you said that you were going to try to get service to a wired outlet by splitting the output from the @Home router and running into an outlet. Did that work for you? I'm interested because if that worked then it's an answer for getting a phone connection to my DirecTV receivers.

Also, can you confirm that you can disable the wireless radio in the Linksys router? I currently have a Linksys Wireless N that I'd like to continue to use.

On a similar topic, have you or anyone else reading this thread connected the @Home router to an existing network by cascading? My set up would be:

cable modem --> Existing Linksys N/1Gb router --> D-Link 1Gb router --> Linksys @Home router

If figure this should work since the @Home router is a normal router and I can cascade routers today. I need the D-Link in the mix because I've used all the ports on the Linksys N/1Gb router.

The information available through your blog has been a lot of help to me in researching the @Home service. Thanks!!

Rick,

The odds of you getting two bad routers is extremely slim. If you did, then I'd go play the lottery immediately : )

Seriously though - I'm sure it is something with your pc. I would make sure firewall/antivirus is shut off, etc and then try. If that doesn't work, then see if it isn't a browser issue. Maybe download firefox or opera and try a different browser?

The default user name is "admin" and the password is "admin". This is written on the bottom of the router.

I still can't access the web server in the router unless I power cycle it. T-Mobile sent me a new router but it does the same thing.

My callers also still occasionally hear a touch tone which lasts for about one second.

jonas,

It's been a while so I can't remember but I know for sure that the default username is 'admin' and my guess is the default password is just a blank. Then, once in, click on the Administration tab and you'll be able to set your own password.

This isn't something that you should call T-Mobile about - it should be in the LinkSys documentation since it's not specific to T-Mobile and has nothing to do with the VOIP service.
